The Android 2.3 (Gingerbread) SDK was released on 6th December 2010, based on Linux kernel 2.6.35.

The Key features of Android 2.3 Gingerbread are as follow.

- Extra-large screen size and resolution is supported. ( WXGA and higher)
- Native support for SIP VoIP internet telephony.
- Updated virtual keyboard having faster and more intuitive text input, with improved accuracy, better suggested text and voice input method.
- Added with feature of copy/paste functionality, allowing user to select a word by press-hold, copy and paste.
- Supports Near Field Communication (NFC),that allows the user to read an NFC tag attached in a poster, sticker, or advertisement.
- Updated with new audio effects such as re-verb, equalization, headphone virtualization and bass boost .
- Having updated new download manager, makes the user easy to download files from browser, email and other application.
- Including with the support of multi-cameras on the device, having a front-facing camera, if available.
- Supports the video playback WebM/VP8 and AAC audio encoding.
- Developed games by audio, graphical and input enhancements.
- Native support for more sensors such as gyroscopes and barometer.
After one month to the release of this version Android, again it was updated from 2.3 to 2.3.2 with improve and bug fixed for the Google Nexus S.
